With Aaron Ramsey’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, and no extension seemingly forthcoming, Arsenal could soon find themselves in desperate need of a new, top class midfielder.
Should that scenario come to pass, the Gunners would be wise to seek the signature of Sevilla’s Ever Banega. Emery has a long history with the 65-cap Argentina international, having worked with him whilst in charge of both Valencia and Sevilla. For the latter, the pair won the Europa League together twice.
A third instalment of the partnership could be in store at Arsenal. The 30-year-old could certainly become an asset for the North London club, and it’d be very useful for Emery to have a player already very familiar and comfortable with his methods and style of play at his disposal at the Emirates Stadium.
Banega would bring experience, technical quality, creativity and tenacity to the heart of the Arsenal midfield. However, his age and relative lack of Champions League level experience could count against him.
When we asked Arsenal fans if they would like to see Emery bring Banega to the club, 59% said yes. See the full results below.
