Since Unai Emery’s arrival at Arsenal, the Gunners’ midfield contingent has been transformed – via the signing of Lucas Torreira and the improvement of Granit Xhaka – into a far more solid and cohesive unit than it was before.
However, with Mohamed Elneny having clearly failed to impress the new coach and Aaron Ramsey being deployed in more advanced positions, the north London club’s depth in the middle of the park is currently being supplied by talented youngsters such as Matteo Guendouzi and Emile Smith Rowe.
With Ramsey set to leave the club at the end of the season too (as reported by Sky Sports), Emery may soon want to add a more experienced midfield option to his ranks at the Emirates Stadium.
Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure would be a perfect candidate to come in and add extra depth and steel to the Arsenal engine room. The 25-year-old has been consistently impressive for the Hornets since his arrival in the Premier League and won the club’s player of the season award last time out.
Although the Gunners would likely have to exceed the Frenchman’s £13.5 million Transfermarkt valuation to prise him away from Vicarage Road, the powerful and technically-gifted midfielder still ought to represent a relatively affordable option.
Plenty of Arsenal fans appear to be on board with making a move for Doucoure, with 62% voting in favour according to our recent poll. See the full results below.
