Rob Holding made his first appearance of the new season on Thursday night when he started for Arsenal against Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League. The Gunners eased to a 4-2 victory at the Emirates Stadium, but will be frustrated by the two late goals they conceded to the Ukrainian side.

Despite the goals conceded, Holding put in a very eye-catching performance alongside summer signing Sokratis in the heart of the Arsenal defence. The 23-year-old completed a remarkable 100 passes - more than anyone else on the field - and registered a 94% pass completion rate.

With Unai Emery looking to implement a system that relies upon moves being built up from the back, these passing stats suggest that Holding could be ideally suited to the new manager’s style.

Considering some of Shkodran Mustafi’s struggles in the early stages of this campaign, Emery ought to give Holding a chance to shine in the Premier League in place of the German.

When we asked Arsenal fans which of the two centre-backs they wanted to see start against Everton on Sunday, 82% opted for the young Englishman. See the full results below.
