Revealed: 83% of Arsenal fans think Torreira will be an upgrade on Xhaka

Unai Emery has the tough task of succeeding Arsene Wenger but the early signs are good as the Spaniard has moved to address Arsenal’s three problem positions; goalkeeper, central defender and holding midfielder, with four weeks of the transfer window still to go.

Lucas Torreira gave a glimpse of what he can do out in Russia at the World Cup and Emery will be hoping that the diminutive midfielder’s battling qualities can add bite to a Gunners midfield that has lacked physicality for a number of years.

After years of neglect, Arsene Wenger finally spent big to attempt to bolster that area of the team when he landed Granit Xhaka after Euro 2016, but it has been a bumpy ride for the Swiss international.

Wenger initially seemed unsure on where to use Xhaka and then the player’s ill-discipline – in both a tackling and positional sense – hampered his attempts to be the solution to a long-standing problem.

So, we asked whether Torreira will be an upgrade on Xhaka and the response was fairly overwhelming. 83 per cent of them think that he will be better than the 6ft midfielder, as you can see from the results below…
