Mesut Ozil hasn’t always been a beacon of popularity during his time at Arsenal, but there appears to be a far greater appreciation for the German playmaker this season – perhaps because Alexis Sanchez wasn’t at his best during his final six months in north London, perhaps because he could follow the Chile international out of the club this summer.
Indeed, after Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final yesterday evening, we asked Gunners supporters to issue an individual performance rating for each player involved in the clash at the Emirates Stadium, and it was Ozil who came out on top with an average rating of 8.2.
And the statistics would appear to justify the Arsenal faithful picking him out as the Man of the Match. Ozil created the most chances, four, of any Gunners player last night, completed an impressive 95% of his passes and even chipped in defensively with one tackle.
