As soon as Arsenal fans found out that they would be appointing Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s successor, they quickly took to Twitter to discuss potential signings with many identifying Sevilla defensive midfielder Steven Nzonzi as a more than likely addition the Spaniard would be making.
The 46-year-old manager signed the giant Frenchman, rated at £27m by Transfermarkt, during his spell with the La Liga outfit, and he has often played with a strong and tall player in that position throughout his coaching career.
While the Gunners have good players on the ball in those areas in the form of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka, they perhaps don’t have that leader or physical player that can really protect the defence in the centre – something that is clearly need after another poor campaign from the north London outfit in terms of goals conceded.
We asked Arsenal fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would want Emery to be reunited with Nzonzi, who Wenger was linked with a move for over and over but failed to ever get a deal done for, again at the Emirates this summer, and a huge 79% said they would.
It seems clear that the Gunners will be busy in the transfer market this summer and having reportedly missed out to Liverpool for the addition of Fabinho, the former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City man could become a prime midfield target.
