Roma’s Pellegrini would be a smart midfield addition from new Arsenal boss Emery

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery is interested in signing 21-year-old Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to Sky Sports.

What’s the story, then?

Sky Sports’ sources in Italy claim that Arsenal want the Italian international, who has a release clause of just £26m in his current contract at Stadio Olympico.

They also report that Italian champions Juventus are interested in the services of the midfielder, who got three goals and four assists in 28 Serie A appearances this season.

Pellegrini is an all-rounder

The English audience have already had a couple of glimpses of Pellegrini this season. Firstly, he started for Italy in March’s international friendly at Wembley in a 1-1 draw against Gareth Southgate’s England.

The midfielder endured a quiet night on that occasion but he did not look out of place in a technical and new-look Azzurri side, seeking to get over the enormous disappointment of missing out on this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Then, he featured as Roma tried to overcome the odds and reverse a 5-2 first leg defeat when Liverpool visited in the second installment of the clubs’ Champions League semi-final.

Getting exposure at European and international level shows the ability Pellegrini has and at £26m, has a surprisingly reasonable valuation for someone of his age and potential.
