Arsenal have pipped Manchester United to the signing of Sunderland youngster Sam Greenwood, as reported on the official website of the League One club.
The 16-year-old wonderkid has come through the Sunderland academy and is tipped to be a star for the future.
The Black Cats offer the youngster a contract but with interest from Manchester United and Arsenal it was always going to be difficult to keep the talent.
Greenwood was prolific for the Sunderland U18s last season, scoring six goals and providing six assists, and he will sign a professional contract with the Gunners when he turns 17 in January.
Greenwood will be hoping to replicate the success of fellow Sunderland academy graduates Jordan Henderson and Jordan Pickford as he makes the dream move to the top flight.
The hot prospect is showing every sign that he could be a star for many years to come, and under new academy coach Per Mertesacker, he should hone his skills to become a first-team player very soon.
