Anderlecht midfielder Steven Defour believes that Arsenal are too reliant on the likes of Alexis Sanchez and are not in the same bracket as Borussia Dortmund.
The Gunners needed two late goals to beat the Belgian giants last night, with Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski striking just before the final whistle to cancel out Andy Najar’s opener.
With the result, Arsenal are favourites to advance from Group D alongside leaders Dortmund, who have picked up maximum points from their opening three games.
Defour took on the Germans in a 3-0 loss in Brussels and believes that they are far superior to Arsenal, who depend too much on performances from individuals:
“Arsenal were hoping for a moment of brilliance from Alexis Sanchez or Danny Welbeck and didn’t have many runners from midfield. Dortmund’s midfielders seemed to be coming from everywhere three weeks ago,” he told Goal.
“Three weeks ago, Dortmund outplayed us and we have to accept they were the better team, but I don’t think Arsenal were stronger than we were.”
Sanchez and Welbeck both signed for Arsenal over the summer in deals worth over £50m combined.
