Mesut Ozil is one of the finest players in the Premier League but his inconsistency in big matches has put him under a lot of criticism, most recently in the fall-out of the Gunners 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.
The German World Cup winner was a passenger for the entirety of Arsenal’s second defeat in the space of a week, with many suggesting the former Real Madrid star does not work hard enough for his team- as he didn’t put in a shift off the ball against the Citizens.
Robbie Savage, however, believes the German does work hard and had the stats to back-up his views. Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Savage said:
“There’s a perception that Özil doesn’t work hard and run, but if you look at the stats last year he’s up there with the highest runners in the Premier League in that position,”
With Arsenal slipping to nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, Ozil needs to up his performances on Boxing Day when the Gunners host West Brom to help the North London bounce back to form.
