New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has ramped up his interest in a reunion with Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, according to the Express.
AS.com report that Sevilla are braced for a more serious interest in the French midfielder and have identified Real Madrid’s Marcos Llorente as a potential replacement.
That has led the Express to claim that Emery is edging closer to reuniting with the former Blackburn destroyer, who he brought to the Spanish club in 2015.
They also report that he has a £35m release clause – which Emery is presumably well aware of – and that while Sevilla will not budge in their valuation, their interest in Llorente as a replacement suggests that they are open to do a deal for N’Zonzi.
Replacing Arsene Wenger is a monumental task and it is understandable that Emery wants to surround himself with people he knows well and can trust.
N’Zonzi would be expensive but he operates in a position in which Arsenal have been desperate for bolstering for many years and if Emery is able to articulate his demands clearly and swiftly – and we have seen the difference that a reunion with Nemanja Matic has made to Jose Mourinho’s midfield plans at Manchester United – he could be worth every penny.
