Had the Premier League season started when Francis Coquelin returned to Arsenal and made his first start over the winter period, then the Gunners would be top of the pile and on course for the title. Wow! We all knew the Frenchman had been doing well, but this really puts it into perspective, with the enforcer’s impact over the 15 games leaving the London club seven points clear at the top, with Liverpool their closes competitors.
This discovery came just hours after Eden Hazard picked up the PFA Player of the Year award, and it makes you wonder, has his influence been greater than Coquelin’s? Okay the Belgian is probably the best player in the division, but his presence has perhaps not been as great, with the Blues having spread their goals around and built on a rock solid defence. Meanwhile Arsenal were on an eight-game winning streak until Sunday, which had righted the wrongs of their early campaign.
