Mikel Arteta’s start to life as Arsenal manager isn’t quite going as he’d hoped.

The Gunners have won just one league game since he’s taken charge, and it seems as if this is going to be a season to forget for the London club.

However, there are a few slight positives to take out of this season, and the continued emergence of Gabriel Martinelli has certainly been something to rejoice about.

The young Brazilian found himself on the scoresheet again on Saturday, and he received high praise from one Sky Sports pundit after finding the net.

What’s been said then?

Clinton Morrison was covering Arsenal vs Sheffield United on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday, and he was full of praise for Martinelli after he scored the opener.

“It’s the young kid Martinelli who knows how to score goals,” Morrison said on Gillette Soccer Saturday (18/1/20 3:45PM).

“It’s good link up play from Ozil and Lacazette and the ball went out to the left. It was whipped in and took a deflection off a Sheffield United player, and there was Martinelli, six yards out to put it into an empty net.

“It’s not what Arsenal deserve, but a goal for Martinelli, I like him a lot he’s a lively striker."

The praise continued after the game as he continued:

"I think he's going be a star for the Arsenal, every time I see him in little spells he scores goals, and again he was there in the six-yard box to put it into the net." (18/1/20 5:37PM)

Bright spark

There’s no way to jazz up Arsenal’s season so far as it’s simply been a nightmare given their league position of tenth, but Martinelli’s emergence is one of few positives.

So far this term, he's already scored ten goals in 24 outings, outlining a fabulous return from someone who's playing in just his first season in England.

It’s going to be a real rebuilding job at the Emirates Stadium, and Morrison’s praise of him shows why he may be the man to build the team around.

A lively striker who knows where the net sounds like exactly the type of player Arteta needs if he’s going to make Arsenal the force they once were under Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners didn’t get the win against the Blades, but they can take solace in the fact that their teenage hotshot continued his good form.

In other news, David Ornstein has played down one Arsenal transfer rumour.
