Spaniards eager to sell talented forward to Arsenal

Atletico Madrid are keen to strike a deal with Arsenal for Jackson Martinez, according to reports from Don Balon.

The Colombia international was heavily linked with a switch to north London on a number of occasions during his time at Porto, before he moved across the Spain/Portugal border last summer.

But, even though Atletico only snapped up the 29-year-old half a season ago, they’re understood to be eager to move him on in the coming weeks, and are reportedly hoping to engineer a deal with the Gunners.

Vicente Calderon boss Diego Simeone wants cash to fund his own business, while the Premier League side are known to be short of genuine centre-forward options.

Although he’s struggled in Spain, Martinez’s burly build and pace suggest he may be suited to English football, while his fearsome scoring record for Porto – 67 goals in 89 Primeira Liga games – illustrates his quality.
