Star striker would consider Arsenal move

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney will consider a move to Arsenal, but only if a move to Chelsea falls through, according to the Daily Mail.

The drawn out saga looks to be no closer to reaching a conclusion, although Rooney is still adamant he wants to quit Old Trafford, despite the club insisting he is not for sale at any price.

Chelsea is understood to be Rooney’s first choice, as he is relishing the prospect with linking up with new manager Jose Mourinho.

However such is his desire to quit, it is understood that should a fee not be agreed, the England forward would then opt for a move to the Emirates instead.

The Gunners have had their name linked with the 27-year-old since March, when he was controversially left on the bench for the Champions League return leg against Real Madrid.

They have also indicated they are willing to meet the striker’s incredible wage demands – a contract thought to be worth £240,000 a week.

Chelsea still remain the front runners for the England forward, having had an official bid of £23million plus £2.5million in additional clauses rejected last week, although Rooney has been encouraged by noises from the Arsenal camp that suggest Wenger would want to build his team around him.

United however, are adamant they do not want to sell to a Premier League rival, and are hoping the likes of Paris St Germain or Real Madrid step up their reported interest.
