The 27-year-old has been looking for a club since being released by Schalke, and has been the subject of interest from Lazio, Inter Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk.
However it appears that Arsenal have won the race for the free agent, with agent loan Becali claiming a deal could be completed by next week.
“Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it’s natural that big clubs are eyeing his career. He’s close to joining Arsenal , but we have to wait for the next week,” Becali said.
The news will be seen as positive for Arsenal supporters, who spent the entire summer desperate to see the club sign a striker.
The club were consistently linked with the likes of Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney, although the only forward to make the summer switch to the Emirates was French youngster Yaya Sanogo.
The £42.5million signing of Mesut Ozil on deadline day went some way to appeasing frustrated Arsenal supporters, although the general feeling at the Emirates is that they are still a striker short of challenging for major honours this season.
Marica will battle for a first team place with Olivier Giroud who is seen as the current first choice having bagged three goals in the opening three league matches of the season, including a fine winner in the North London derby.
