Gary Neville is fast becoming the antidote to football’s philosophers. The new, improved Andy Gray, if you like. The man who gets to tinker with the machine all football fans would love to have a play with – the SkyPad.
Despite the Premier League yet to get underway the former Manchester United right-back had a busy day yesterday analysing another sport – cricket! He is clearly in demand – first of all having a 20-minute special interview with the BBC’s Test Match Special and then entering the Sky Sports commentary box.
It was here that the real fun started with Gary Neville having some banter with his cricketing counterpart and former England captain Nasser Hussain. Hussain, a Leeds and Arsenal fan (yes, I know that’s a very strange mix) asked Neville whether he expected Luis Suarez to be an Arsenal player by the end of the transfer window. Neville replied with a ‘no’ and then cheekily asked Hussain whether he enjoyed seeing Robin van Persie being Premier League top scorer at Manchester United last season.
Just to rub salt in the wound he then went on to use highlights of Hussain’s playing career to show viewers how not to play cricket. And after contrasting the great footballing talent of van Persie with a less than impressive moment from Hussain, the latter was truly stumped.
In the words of David Lloyd ‘Nasser you were destroyed!’ Take a look at the videos below…
