Arsene Wenger will be in the market this summer to finally address the worrying issue of goalkeepers at Arsenal. While Lukas Fabianski has taken the reins for the remainder of the season, there is no long term faith in a goalkeeper who was once so error prone. Wojciech Szczesny, on the other hand, needs to ensure his youthful confidence doesn’t get in the way of what could be a very promising career.
And that is what Arsenal will need to think about when they make a fresh addition to the goalkeeping department. It’s vital that a good player comes in who can complement Szczesny and force strong competition between the two – something which has been absent at Arsenal for many years.
Europe is currently filled with top goalkeeping talents who are seemingly going under the radar. There’s far too much emphasis on the big names and whether Victor Valdes or Pepe Reina are good enough to make an impression at the Emirates – a largely unbelievable idea with regards to the former.
Going into this summer, there are many bargains to be had on the continent, and notably with players who will make a difference in the Premier League. It will come down to how well Wenger uses the market to address an obvious problem at the club.
