Part of the process in achieving success is in creating a stable foundation and an atmosphere around the club in which all believe that silverware is attainable. And at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger has a lot more to do than simply bringing in top talent to appease the fans.
Of course, the need is there for world-class players to come into the squad, but there’s only so far they can take the team without a strong core at the base of the club. For all the positives attached to Wenger’s reign in charge, there are plenty of shortcomings that need to be addressed.
In order for the club to successfully follow the self-sustaining model, it needs to be married with other aspects of football. The club have gone on too long with just getting by. As well as higher spend in the market, this summer needs to mark a change in approach right across the board.
