Atletico Madrid’s La Liga hero Juanfran has confessed that he’s rejected the chance to join Arsenal TWICE.
The Spaniard was one of the Rojiblancos’ most impressive performers during their momentous 2013/14 campaign in which the Vicente Calderon outfit claimed the league title and made it all the way to the Champions League Final – losing to bitter rivals Real Madrid in extra-time.
His displays alerted Arsenal last summer, with reports claiming that he was on a short-list of right-back options alongside Ivorian ace Serge Aurier before the Gunners opted to land Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy.
And Juanfran claims that, although there were two separate offers from the London side, he rejected their advances as he wanted to stay with Atleti:
“I know where I am. Atletico have pushed for me to stay,” he is quoted by Goal. “I rejected two offers from Arsenal. It’s what I feel.”
Although Juanfran stayed, Atletico lost Thibaut Courtois, Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea, albeit with the former heading back to Stamford Bridge following the expiration of his loan deal.
