Barring the abrupt trend of high-profile Premier League players suddenly pushing for moves abroad, it's been a relatively tame transfer window in the English top flight thus far.

Indeed, we're yet to see a blockbuster deal and as per usual, Arsenal appear to be distancing themselves from the transfer market as much as possible.

But if the Gunners wish to catch up with Chelsea before the prizes are handed out at the end of May, they need to make some movements before the deadline to improve a squad that has thus far failed to keep pace with the west Londoners.

Of course, the transfer window slams shut in just eight days, which doesn't give Wenger much time to get deals for new recruits over the line. But nothing is impossible in the beautiful game and if the Frenchman prioritises correctly, he should still have enough time to bring the right players in.

With that in mind, we take a look at three key positions Wenger must strengthen over the next eight days...

The centre-half pairing of Shkodran Mustafi and Lauren Koscielny are beginning to form a formidable partnership at the back, something the Gunners have lacked for a number of years. However, it is called a back FOUR for a reason, and if you look either side of the ever-improving duo, you can easily identify a weakness in the Gunners' arsenal.

Hector Bellerin looks half the player he did last season, while Nacho Monreal, although consistent, fails to offer much in the attacking sense down the left. It's an attribute of almost all modern full-backs yet one the Spaniard clearly lacks.

Defensive Midfield

For all the creative power Arsenal possess in the middle of the park, they still - and I can't believe I'm saying it again so apologies in advance - lack that Patrick Vieira character to boss things in the centre for them. They lack a big, strong, more defensively-minded midfielder who will hold the fort while the others strut their stuff.

Francis Coquelin isn't up to that level. Arsenal missed a big opportunity to sign N'Golo Kante in the summer but Monaco's Tiemoué Bakayoko has performed well this season and offers a similar physical proposition to the aforementioned Vieira. Could he be the man the Gunners need?

Right winger/attacking midfielder

Given the form Olivier Giroud is in at the minute, it is fair to say he is likely to be in Arsenal's starting XI for the remainder of the season if he stays fit.

Behind him you have both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil - two of the Premier League's most gifted players. But who is the the third spear in the attacking trident? Theo Walcott or Alex Iwobi.

While the pair certainly aren't bad options, you could look at it like having a fork with a slightly broken prong on the right-hand side, which sometimes makes eating a little difficult. Adding a new, straightened prong would really make Arsenal an attacking force to be reckoned with. Marco Reus would be the perfect addition.
