Riechedly Bazoer signing for Wolfsburg may not seem like news that directly effects Arsenal fans, but Gunners supporters should be a little upset that the Dutchman is heading to the Bundesliga side. The 20-year-old midfielder looks set to swap Ajax's Amsterdam ArenA for the Volkswagen Arena next month when the transfer window opens, with the German club confirming on Twitter that an agreement has been reached between themselves and their Eredivisie counterparts for the signature of the starlet - only personal terms and a medical now stand in the way.

So where do Arsenal come into this? Well, the north Londoners were one of many teams supposedly chasing the player, who has attracted a fair amount of interest from across Europe.

'So what?' we hear Gooners cry. Well, we're about to give you THREE reasons why Arsene Wenger has missed another transfer trick in letting Bazoer slip through the club's fingers...

Bargain transfer

It's being widely reported (by Bild, for example), that Wolfsburg have paid just €12m (£10.1m) for Bazoer. In modern day football, such a sum is peanuts for a promising talent, so it really does look like Wenger has missed a fantastically cheap deal.

A quick glance back at windows past shows that Manchester City have been prepared to pay huge fees for youngsters such as Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, while Manchester United made Anthony Martial the most expensive teenager in the history of the beautiful game in 2015.

Although Bazoer may not ever match the talents of such players, for a modest outlay, Arsenal wouldn't have been taking a huge risk.

He's already an international star

Despite being only 20, Bazoer already has six full international caps for the Netherlands, having made appearances for his country at every youth age group.

He's likely to be a mainstay in the side alongside the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum in years to come and that will undoubtedly accelerate his development.

Even with the Oranje's decline in the past few years, you have to be a pretty special player to pull on the famous jersey at such a young age.

He is versatile

Although he's played as a midfielder for the majority of his professional career, Bazoer actually came through Ajax's youth ranks as a central defender.

He has the attributes for either position but also the skill level that would allow him to be deployed in a midfield role and surge forward from deep.

That kind of versatility is likely to stand him well in his career with most managers at big clubs opting for fluidity and rotation in their starting line-ups.

Arsenal are, obviously, no different, and injuries in recent years have often exposed areas of weakness in Wenger's squad. Having a player like Bazoer would have given the Frenchman a youthful option able to fill a number of positions.
