Arsenal have been flying this season since suffering a blip on the opening day, when they were defeated by Liverpool in a 4-3 thriller, and the Gunners are now amid a run of 16 consecutive matches across all competitions without losing.

Whilst the Arsenal squad seems to have hit their mark this season, not everything is perfect and there is still a lot of work to do if the Gunners are to turn from nearly-men into Premier League champions.

Progress has been made compared to recent years, with the most telling factor being that Arsenal have qualified for the Champions League with two games to spare, and things are looking on the up.

If Wenger can fix the problems that remain, then Arsenal may finally become contenders on the European front as well as domestically.

The international break will give Arsenal a chance to dust themselves down ahead of a testing festive period, where matches await against the likes of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

If the Gunners want to get through those fixtures positively, then Arsenal need to improve in these three areas.

Sort out the defence

Whilst Arsenal's defence has statistically looked good this season, those who watch the Gunners on a weekly basis will tell you that this is far from the true story. The highlight reels may leave out blips for the Gunners but there's a lot of issues that have presented themselves.

In both games against Ludogorets in the Champions League, the Bulgarian champions had the chances to win the match on another day and that situation has repeated itself domestically - the likes of Swansea, Middlesbrough and Tottenham can count themselves rather unfortunate to have left the Emirates Stadium without a win.

Arsenal have really been riding their luck at the back and every member of the defence needs to improve, which leads us nicely onto our next point.

Get Cech to buck his ideas up

Four time Premier League winner, a legend in the English game and one of the finest goalkeepers in the world on his day. The problem for Arsenal though is that Petr Cech has never quite shown the best of his ability with the Gunners.

Bearing in mind that Wojciech Szczesny won the Golden Glove with Arsenal two years ago, you can expect Arsenal's defence to have improved with Cech. That's not really been the case though and whilst he did keep the most clean sheets in the league last season, Cech has declined in recent years.

Poor positioning and questionable decision making have been present from Arsenal's number one this season, which could prove to be his downfall as David Ospina has impressed in the Champions League.

Choose a left-winger to stick with

So far this season, Arsenal have utilised Alex Iwobi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez on the left-had side but so far failed to find a format that sticks. Alexis is better up-top, so that's where he should stay, but Arsenal need better consistency from Iwobi or the Ox.

Iwobi, still just 20, has shone this season but doesn't quite look ready to be a regular fixture of Arsenal's starting XI. For Oxlade-Chamberlain, he's shown glimpses of brilliance but continues to be a very frustrating player, with his woeful performance off the bench against Spurs identifying exactly that.

If Arsenal can't find a preferred option out of these two, then they have around six weeks to start exploring the market in order to line up the final piece of their puzzle in January.
