Walcott vs. Mahrez… Arsenal star has outperformed Leicester ace

Arsenal’s summer transfer window saw them linked with a host of big name stars. Although the rumour mill was churning out stories on a daily basis, the Gunners actually had a relatively quiet off-season in terms of recruitment, with their late double-swoop for Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi a reaction, perhaps, to some earlier disappointments.

One such blow came in the shape of not signing Riyad Mahrez. The Leicester City man was named as the PFA Players’ Player of the Year last term as he helped the Foxes to the title, with goals and assists from the right wing aplenty. Naturally, a team as big as Arsenal wanted the Algerian, but the player himself recently revealed that, despite there being “contact” with the London club, he didn’t want to be disloyal to Leicester – who understandably didn’t want him to leave.

The end result is that Mahrez remains at the King Power Stadium, whilst Arsene Wenger is utilising Theo Walcott on the right-hand side instead. The Englishman has looked reborn this season, and as the numbers show, sticking with him after the Mahrez blow may actually have been a blessing in disguise…
