Wenger gives Cazorla hope of new contract, Arsenal fans react

Santi Cazorla has had a hellish 15 months due to injury, but it seems that the midfielder still has a future at Arsenal.

What was initially an innocuous Achilles problem turned out to be something much more severe.

The Spaniard underwent 10 operations and had to have a skin graft, and it is unclear when he will be able to return to match fitness.

As it stands, Cazorla comes to the end of his current contract in the summer, but Wenger has suggested that a new one will be offered.

According to The Telegraph, the French boss told reporters in Friday’s press conference that a new contract will be on the table if Cazorla can prove his fitness.

“We have to assess that until the end of the season – if Santi is fit and available to play, then, yes. It is a complicated situation because, first of all, we love him; second of all, he is a great football player; but the third situation is that you need to be healthy today to play at the intensity level that is needed in the Premier League. So we have to see if he can absorb that or not.”

The 33-year-old has been an Arsenal player since 2012 when he joined from Malaga, and has gone on to win two FA Cups with the Gunners.

Throughout the years, Cazorla has become a fan favourite, and fans have been tweeting their support to the midfielder following this latest development.
