Wenger linked with £17m French ace & Arsenal line up £1.5m deal for Croat – Best of AFC

Well, isn’t this shaping up to be an exciting season at the Emirates Stadium! The solid start made by the Gunners is now a distant memory as they presumably lurch towards another crisis after a couple of less than favourable results. Combine that with Arsene Wenger’s convoluted assertion that challenging for a top four place trumps lifting a domestic trophy and supporters must feel like they’re floating aimlessly in a non-existence. That sensation must have been amplified as they watched the players trudge off the field at the Madjeski Stadium 4-1 down on Tuesday night. And then came, what could prove to be, a huge turning point for the North Londoners. Not only did they produce an extraordinary fightback to take the game into extra time, they finished off the Royals to run out 7-5 winners in an extraordinary 120 minutes of football. That kind of resolve and determination isn’t a trait usually attributed to Arsene Wenger’s side. With the knowledge that strength of will is hanging in their locker the Gunners can start to turn their campaign back in the right direction.

Quote of the Week

“I did not think about when we had to equalise, I just felt that if we had the chance and God will help us, we will make a draw! He helped us and that’s why we scored in the last minute. I have lost twice 7-1, once I lost 8-3 and once I won 9-3 and now 7-5. But this game was one I will remember always because it was from 4-0 down. I don’t think anyone here believed that we could come back. But we did it and we deserved to win. We showed spirit because you cannot come back from 4-0 down if you don’t have spirit.” Andrei Arshavin claims a divine intervention helped Arsenal to come from 4-0 down to beat Reading in their Capital One Cup tie on Tuesday.
