Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Olivier Giroud will be allowed to leave the club, but only if a new signing is made.
The France international has struggled for regular game time this season having earned just a single starting spot in the Premier League.
So far, the striker has been handed 14 substitute outings in the top flight, but he has been in the first XI for six Europa League matches.
Despite not having a regular starting role, Giroud has scored seven goals in all competitions.
Arsenal are trying to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, but they are struggling to get a deal over the line.
According to Sky Sports News, the German club rejected the Gunners’ offer worth in excess of £50m.
While Wenger admitted to reporters in a press conference on Friday that he did not want Giroud to go, he did indicate that the Frenchman could leave if a new face is brought in.
“I want Olivier to stay, I just told you that if nobody goes in, nobody goes out. Maybe one or two young players [will go] out on loan somewhere, [but] the experienced side of the squad will remain the same unless somebody comes in.”
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal’s rivals Chelsea are considering moving for Giroud if they fail to land Edin Dzeko from Roma.
Arsenal fans have been reacting to the latest news on Twitter.

I don't want Olivier Giroud to leave Arsenal but a good solution could be to let him go to Dortmund on loan until the end of the season. That gives Dortmund a chance to replace Aubameyang full time in the summer and we get Giroud back for next season. #afc #gooners #doit #coyg

How do Chelsea think there’s any way in the bloody world that we’ll loan them Giroud?! He’s a very good forward – why would we ever loan him to a direct rival. Different situation to Sanchez, RVP etc. where we had little choice #afc
