Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is still looking for defensive cover in his squad and is tracking Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic according to the Metro this morning.
Dragovic is widely thought of as one of the rising stars of European football and the Austrian has impressed since moving to Basel from Austria Vienna in February last year.
The 21-year-old was reportedly scouted by Arsenal last week when Basel beat FC Sion 4-1 in the Swiss League and the Gunners scouts are set to return to Switzerland for further checks before the January transfer window opens so that Arsenal can beat off the competition for the Austrian’s signature.
The likes of Inter Milan, Roma, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille are interested in Dragovic and Premier League Norwich City appeared to have had a £2million bid turned down in the summer.
Arsenal may well be watching the defender as Basel take on Genk in the Europa League on Thursday to show his quality in Europe as the £5million rated defender is definitely on Wenger’s January wish list.
