Arsenal’s week took a huge turn for the worst on Tuesday evening when defeat to Everton at Goodison Park handed the Gunners a major dent in their ambitions of becoming Premier League champions.
Failing to take advantage of the chance to move top of the Premier League, Arsenal were defeated for only the second time in the league this season but their defeat handed the chance for Chelsea to seize a firm grip on the title.
Whilst there’s still a lot of football to be played, the defeat on Merseyside highlighted the issues within Arsene Wenger’s side and club legend Ian Wright believes he knows the key to beating the Gunners. Speaking on BT Sport’s coverage of the match, he said:
“When you watch how they played against West Ham and teams do not make it like a contest like that,” Wright told BT Sport post-match. “They were quite nervous [Everton] until the crowd got into it and they started to get into it and suddenly it became a physical contest.
“If you are going to beat Arsenal or you are going to take them out of their stride, you have to make the game that kind of game. I think that, the way that Everton played, you have to give them credit, but there were chances for Arsenal. Arsenal did have chances to maybe score and maybe make it more comfortable.”
With Arsenal’s next Premier League game seeing Arsene Wenger’s side travel to face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, things could take a further bad turn this weekend and this tactic from Wright could hand the game to the Citizens.
