Arsenal’s £12million man set for return to first-team training

The Daily Mirror have revealed that Theo Walcott is eyeing a return to first-team training next week, whilst also hoping to avoid an operation on a groin injury suffered whilst away on international duty with England last month – to make matters worse, Walcott didn’t play in either of Roy Hodgson side’s two games.

Walcott has only recently returned to the matchday squad for Arsene Wenger’s side following a lengthy injury absence after injuring his knee ligaments way back in January against the Gunners’ north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.

Arsenal’s medical team will assess the former Southampton winger early next week and hope to avoid having to put Walcott under the knife, so soon again after his return. If surgery is avoided, then the England international has been earmarked in for Christmas games against Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United, however, Arsenal’s Third Round FA Cup clash at the beginning of January may well be a more reasonable target.
