Arsenal have scored some spectacular goals throughout their history but with their clash against Manchester United coming up this weekend, we thought we'd take a look at the FIVE best Gunners goals scored against the Red Devils.

Some of the classics stretch all the way back to the 1970s, when United were not the most decorated team in English football and winning FA Cups was their main source of success.

Arsenal, too, were a mixed bag back in the day, but both won their fair share of trophies.

In more modern times, as we've had the pleasure of watching over the past couple of decades, Manchester United and Arsenal have dominated the Premier League era, winning 16 of the 24 titles combined.

Here, we take a look at the best of both eras from an Arsenal perspective, so if you're a United fan, look away now! Or don't - we promise, these five goals are a thing of beauty.

Alan Sunderland - 1979

Alan Sunderland. An absolute hero amongst the Arsenal faithful.

Sunderland made 281 appearances for the Gunners but one will be remembered head and shoulders above all the rest - the cup final in 1979.

Arsenal were comfortably leading the game 2-0 but two quick-fire late Manchester United goals appeared destined to send the game into a replay.

Up stepped Mr. Sunderland, who netted from a wonderful Liam Brady cross. It may not be the most aesthetic goal on this list but its one of the most important.

David Rocastle - 1991

Very sadly, and far too young, David Rocastle passed away in 2001. But he was a fantastic talent for Arsenal in his playing days and was capable of some extraordinary things.

His goal against United in 1991 was a thing of beauty as he picked the ball up in midfield, slalomed his way past three players and managed to guide it ever so gently beyond Peter Schmeichel's grasp from all of 30 yards out.

A quite exquisite finish.

Patrick Vieira - 1997

Vieira against Manchester United always produced interesting battles, especially between himself and Roy Keane.

During his time at Arsenal, the Frenchman scored some absolute belters but this one against United was slightly more delicate than his collection of piledrivers.

It still required a lot of power but the swerve and bend on the ball was magnificent, too. The Gunners went on to win the clash 3-2, making this goal even more significant.

Thierry Henry - 2000

Henry is one of the finest players to ever put on an Arsenal shirt. He is the top Gunners scorer of all time and some of his goals were extraordinary.

This strike is certainly one of them.

Receiving the ball with his back to goal on the edge of the box, Denis Irwin felt like he had the situation under control.

Unfortunately for him though, Henry is a genius. He turned and swivelled, sending the ball into the top corner past his fellow countryman Fabien Barthez.

Another classic goal.

Sylvain Wiltord - 2002

Like Alan Sunderland's goal, this strike won't go down as one of the best ever but in terms of significance, it is an unforgettable one in Arsenal folklore.

The Gunners were pretty much champions anyway but they guaranteed their status in the best way possible by winning the title at Old Trafford.

Ljungberg broke through the defence and his shot rebounded into the path of Wiltord - who slid the ball under Barthez to win the game.
