Goal-shy Aston Villa have launched a late bid for Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert, according to the Irish Independent.
Villa have failed to find the net in each of their last six Premier League matches and manager Paul Lambert is thought to be eager to boost his side’s attacking options before tonight’s 11pm transfer window deadline.
And the Irish Independent are reporting that the Midlands outfit have offered a fee of around £5million for the England international, who only joined the Anfield club last summer from Southampton.
Reports from talkSPORT earlier today suggested both Stoke and West Brom were keen on signing Lambert today, although it is believed Reds boss Brendan Rodgers would not sanction a deal unless he could tempt Burnley in to selling Danny Ings.
Lambert has struggled for game time since signing for his boyhood club and the Irish Independent believe the promise of first team football at Villa Park could be enough to convince the 32-year-old to leave the club just eight months after arriving for the Reds.
