Aston Villa eyeing 22-year-old ace to replace first-team regular

Aston Villa are eyeing a January move for Mainz’s Loris Karius amid concerns surrounding Brad Guzan’s performances, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The Villans have been using the American glovesman as their No.1 for some time now, but manager Tim Sherwood toyed with the idea of dropping him this season after being impressed with Shay Given during the FA Cup run at the back end of 2014/15.

However, he opted to stick with Guzan, yet his form has not yet convinced the ex-Spurs gaffer that he’s the right man for the job.

And reports now claim that Mainz stopper Karius is a winter target, with the 22-year-old having impressed scout Tony Coton.

The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best young goalies in the Bundesliga after shining since his move away from Manchester City as a youth player.
