Aston Villa goalkeeper has been one of the stand-outs for Steve Bruce’s side in their bid for promotion to the English Premier League this season but his long-term future at Villa Park is in doubt.
On loan from Manchester United, there’s no sign yet that a deal is to be completed for his permanent signature.
The player himself opened up on the subject earlier this week, admitting he would be happy to stay on at a place that has now become his home after struggling to make a breakthrough at Old Trafford.
Fans are desperate to see that happen, especially after his goalkeeping heroics against Cardiff City on Tuesday night, believing he should be one of the club’s first signings this summer.
Whether that signing hinges on Premier League promotion is another matter, with many top-flight clubs likely to be interested in his services if he becomes available for transfer.
Supporters took to Twitter this week to share their desire for him to stay on at the Villans…

If we don’t go up and sign Johnstone and Snoddy permanently I’ll be more gutted than when Milner, Young or Benteke left… #AVFC

Sensational goal keeping from Sam Johnstone there. Go up and he has to be the first player we sign.

Even if it's championship football again next season I hope we can sign Johnstone he has been the difference in some games I think he could become bigger than Spinks, Rimmer, Bosnich, and Friedel at Villa.
