Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick joined Hull City on a season-long loan back in August, with the 31-year-old deemed surplus to requirements at Villa Park.

The decision was a strange one when considering Villa's problems in central defence, and it would be fair to say that Steve Bruce was criticised for allowing Elphick to leave.

The 2016 arrival from Bournemouth has performed impressively at Hull, although the Tigers are currently 22nd in the Championship table.

According to Birmingham Live, Villa have the chance to recall Elphick at the start of 2019, but that is unlikely to happen.

And the club's supporters have been on social media reacting to the news.

There are those who would have Elphick back at the mid-point of the campaign, but there are also others who are simply not interested in a return for the centre-back.
