According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa midfielder Birkir Bjarnason has spoken to head coach Steve Bruce in order to seek assurances over his role at the club.
Bjarnason joined Villa from FC Basel in January 2017, and he has scored five times and registered three assists in 39 appearances for his English club in all competitions.
The 30-year-old is already off the mark in terms of goals for this season, meanwhile, having netted the winner against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Empoli are interested in signing the 6ft Iceland international before the summer transfer window closes for business.

The Villa fans recently responded to the speculation surrounding a potential move to Empoli, and have now revealed their views on the latest news.
It would be fair to say that many do not blame Bjarnason for approaching Bruce for assurances, and a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:
Don’t blame him! He wouldn’t want to turn a move down to Italy (a country he likes living in) to sit behind Whelan or Jedinak who are both mid 30’s

I’d have Birkir and sell Jedi and Whelan. Good energy and goal record too.
