According to The Sun, Manchester United's legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate for the club to sign Aston Villa's key midfielder John McGinn which has left many supporters of the Villans discussing a potential exit.

It is thought that Ferguson is close friends with his fellow countryman's grandad, Jack McGinn, and the 77-year-old is pushing for United to pay the £50m Villa want for him.

The 24-year-old was influential in Dean Smith's midfield as they earned promotion back to the Premier League after a three-year absence. McGinn played 43 times for Villa last season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists after he joined the club from Hibernian for an undisclosed fee.

Following comments from England's most successful top-flight manager, a number of supporters took to social media to share their thoughts with one joking that if United stump up £40m plus Axel Tuanzebe and Paul Pogba then Villa will consider the deal.

Another fan compared McGinn to Iniesta by naming him "McGinniesta," claiming any club would want the midfielder at their club. Others simply stated there was no chance of signing him with one fan calling the story shocking.

A couple of the Villa Park faithful took a swipe at Fergie, calling him arrogant whilst another supporter wasn't surprised at United's decline because of the legendary manager's influence on signings.

Here's the best of the reaction:
