After Aston Villa achieved promotion back to the Premier League they've already been busy in the transfer market, adding Jota to their ranks and also bringing in Anwar El Ghazi on a permanent basis.

However, a big money transfer could be in the offing. Journalist Alan Nixon confirmed on Twitter that Aston Villa had an interest in Maxi Gomez, a player who has a reported buy-out clause of £43.5m.

Reacting to the news on Twitter, Villa fans were in huge doubt about a potential move.

One supporter claimed he'd love the Uruguayan to join but claimed he couldn't see it despite how wealthy the club's owners are.

A further fan simply claimed there was no chance a deal would happen, suggesting Neal Maupay, who has been linked with a switch, would be a better move.

Another individual made reference to Pablo Fornals, a player Nixon also issued a response on, saying that the Villans had no interest in him. One member of the Villa Park faithful meanwhile claimed that it was refreshing to see his team and players of Gomez's quality mentioned in the same sentence.

The 22-year-old was among the goals on 13 occasions in La Liga last term and attracted the interest of West Ham back in January.

Here's the best of the debate.
