Steve Bruce may have been sacked at the start of the month, but the blame still lies at his feet, according to these Aston Villa fans.
Bruce was let go after picking up just six points from a September run featuring six games, leaving Villa as close to the drop zone as they were to the automatic promotion places.
Dean Smith has since stepped up to the plate and taken charge of Aston Villa for two matches, seeing the claret and blue side beat Swansea and lose to Norwich in ties decided by a single goal.
The Swansea win would have brought a glimpse of optimism to Villans, but defeat so soon in will have acted as an immediate wake up call to anyone getting carried away as it showed the fans and the new boss just how much work remains to be done at Villa Park.
Obviously the time between taking charge and the first taste of defeat is too short for any manger to make long term adjustments with the players at their disposal left by the old regime, even if some fans suggested more than just the honeymoon was over.
Time will be needed for Smith to stamp his mark on those players, and utilise the January window where he sees fit, but the 47-year-old can take comfort in these fans who acknowledge the workload he has to overturn Steve Bruce’s mess.
Do some villa fans really think Dean Smith and this whole situation is a quick fix?! it’s going to take at least take a season to get the team playing the way he wants #avfc

I really feel for Dean Smith, he must be wondering what on earth have all the players been doing all season so far?? No fitness, no ability to pass the ball, poor defence and GK, however the silver lining is look at how Norwich are playing 18 months into their managers term #AVFC

Two good first 45 mins from Villa under Dean Smith and two slightly wilting, second 45 mins (although haven’t folded as badly as under Bruce).
Players who did pre season under other coaches (Abraham, Tuanzebe, McGinn) look fitter than the players Bruce managed for two years #avfc

It’s almost funny that Bruce has two years and Smith has two games with some in which he is supposed to correct the problems people argued weren’t there under Bruce!

Obviously Dean Smith needs plenty of time to stamp his style on this team. The players look extremely unfit to me, that or just unwilling to put a 90 minute shift in.
With hindsight we’ve picked up 3pts in 2 games when our performances probably justified 2 draws.

Two matches into Dean Smith’s time at #AVFC, it’s evidently clear that Villa were woefully under-conditioned by Steve Bruce’s staff. To play how Smith wants to, which looked great in the first half, Villa will need significant improvement in fitness levels.

Dean Smith & coaches have had less than a week to work with team on or off the training pitch. We have had 2 games in 3 days & face another on Friday. There’s no magical solution. We need to be patient & give Smith & his team time and space. Villa fans Please stop moaning. #AVFC

I think the critical thing if the new set up is going to work is that Dean Smith identifies and gets the type of players he needs to play the system he wants to play, those players also need to have the right work ethic drive and Desire to succeed!!
