Aston Villa have suffered two defeats from two on their Premier League return and things aren’t going to get easier with Everton making the trip to Villa Park on Friday night.

The Toffees are currently unbeaten in their opening two games having won one against Watford and drawn the other to Crystal Palace.

Dean Smith signed 12 players over the summer for a total figure around the £144.5m mark and many have made their debuts already this season - including Bjorn Engels, Trezeguet, Douglas Luiz and club-record signing Wesley.

However, one of his first signings at the club back in January this year is yet to even make a competitive appearance in claret and blue.

Frederic Guilbert joined the club from Caen for £5m just a few months after Smith was appointed as Villa boss but was sent straight back on loan to the French side for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old impressed in pre-season on his return with summer arrival Matt Targett on the other side of defence – the pair kept two clean sheets and conceded just three goals in five matches.

Though neither player has yet started or even featured in a Premier League match this season.

The absence of Guilbert from the entire matchday squad on Saturday for their 2-1 home defeat against Bournemouth has raised question marks amongst some of the Villa fanbase.

A number of fans simply questioned where Guilbert was in response to a club update about another summer signing in Marvelous Nakamba.

One supporter claimed it's key that the Frenchman is brought in on Friday, whilst another labelled his non-existence amongst the team as ‘bizarre’ considering the money they’ve spent, before stating that he has to start against Everton.
