Aston Villa announced via their club website on Monday that winger Yannick Bolasie has exercised an option to end his season-long loan deal from Everton early, and Villa fans were quick to react to the club's Twitter update.

Following some long-term injury issues, the 29-year-old joined the Championship outfit on a temporary basis during the summer transfer window to try and regain his form and help the Midlands outfit get back to the Premier League, but he has struggled to make an impact in England's second tier.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international departs Villa Park having scored two goals and provided a further four assists in 21 Championship appearances, as per Whoscored – a somewhat disappointing return for all parties involved.

Bolasie will now either hope that he is given the opportunity to fight for a spot at Goodison Park or join another club, while Dean Smith will surely look to replace the wide man this month considering the likes of Anwar El Ghazi and Albert Adomah haven't been in great form either.

Aston Villa supporters took to social media to have their say on the first-team update. Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
