According to BirminghamLive, Aston Villa have offered James Collins a five-week contract.
Collins has been on trial with Villa following his release from West Ham United at the end of last season.
During the week, Villa boss Dean Smith revealed that he would soon be making a decision on the future of the 35-year-old.
And according to BirminghamLive, the 6ft 2in ace has now been offered a five-week contract by the Championship outfit.
Collins played over 100 times for Villa between 2009 and 2012 before returning to West Ham, and his experience would certainly come in handy in the second half of the season.
Villa are light when it comes to options in central defence, and whilst Axel Tuanzebe has been praised for his form this season, some supporters have criticised James Chester.
The Villa fans have been on social media offering their views on the news, and a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:
5 weeks means Smith is certain of a signing for CB in January I think. Good move in the meantime really #avfc

All power to him, just two things: Smith better drill him to a) not chip it long from the back every bloody time and b) if he’s going up for corners bloody well keep the header down, man
