Aston Villa announced on Tuesday that Kevin MacDonald had left his position as Head of Football Development with immediate effect.

The 58-year-old had been reassigned to non-player-facing duties following an investigation into allegations of bullying.

"Aston Villa wishes to apologise to all former players who were affected by behaviour which would not be tolerated by the club today," read a statement on the club's official website.

Villa also revealed that the search for MacDonald's successor was already underway, although it is unclear when the club will officially announce a replacement.

MacDonald was Villa's assistant manager during Tim Sherwood's spell at the helm, whilst he had twice been in caretaker charge of the team - including last season in the Championship when Steve Bruce lost his position as head coach.

In his one match at the helm in 2018/19 before Dean Smith's appointment, the Midlands outfit were beaten 2-1 by Millwall at The Den.
