According to The Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa would have moved for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez and Denmark’s Thomas Delaney if they had earned promotion to the Premier League last term.
Villa reached the final of last season’s Championship playoffs, but missed out on the chance to return to the top flight as they lost to Fulham.
Steve Round recently lost his job as Villa’s technical director, but it has been claimed that the former Manchester United coach had huge plans for the club this summer.
Indeed, according to The Birmingham Mail, Fellaini, Hernandez and Delaney – who joined Borussia Dortmund from Werder Bremen earlier this summer – would have all been targets for Villa if they were promoted to the Premier League.
Fellaini ultimately signed a new contract at United, but Hernandez’s future with West Ham is still far from secure.

How have you managed to put ‘Fellaini’ and ‘exciting’ in the same post? ?

Thankfully we are still in the championship as we have had enough journey men

Fellaini and exciting?
— ⚽️ (@RobbieJJoynes) July 9, 2018
Nothing exciting about any of them would rather play our youngsters not overpaid average footballers as per usual
— Nig (@HarryNig) July 9, 2018
Glad we didn’t get any of them, to be honest.

Said it at the time. Sad we didnt go up, but i predicted we would have been saddled with average, older players on massive wages. Delaney would never have been an option and the two others would get massive 4 year deals that would have crippled us.30 and 31 years old?♂️ #avfc
