Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick joined Hull City on a season-long loan back in August, with the 31-year-old deemed surplus to requirements at Villa Park.
The decision was a strange one when considering Villa’s problems in central defence, and it would be fair to say that Steve Bruce was criticised for allowing Elphick to leave.
At the moment, Axel Tuanzebe is playing centre-back with James Chester, but Villa’s results are not exactly fantastic at the moment, and they currently sit down in 17th position in the Championship table.
Elphick – valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt – is due to spend the entire season on loan at Hull, but the Villa fans have urged new head coach Dean Smith to bring the defender back to Villa Park.
Indeed, the reaction from the club’s fans came about after it was shown that Elphick had been named in WhoScored‘s Championship team of the week.
Hull’s results have not been fantastic this season, but Villa are also really struggling, and Elphick might well be heading back to his parent club.
