Spanish attacker Jota made his Aston Villa debut in their 3-0 win over Minnesota United at the Allianz Field in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The 28-year-old completed a move to Villa Park last month, joining the club in a deal which saw Gary Gardner move in the opposite direction.

The Villa fans were able to see the attacker in action for the first time against Minnesota, who conceded three times without reply in the pre-season clash.

Head coach Dean Smith selected Jota in his starting XI before changing his entire side at the interval, which is often the case during pre-season.

It was certainly a positive start from the Premier League club, who will continue their preparations against Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

Villa's official website called Jota "the standout performer in the first half" and a number of the club's fans have taken to social media to hail his display.
