Aston Villa finally end awful run of form

Whilst the majority of football fans’ eyes were focused upon the Champions League last night, there was action going on in the Football League, and Aston Villa were finally given something to celebrate.

The club relegated from the Premier League last year currently sit 17th in the standings in the second-tier of English football, with 14 points to their name after 13 matches – they’ve won just twice so far this term.

One of those wins came against Reading last night, though, and as well as providing Villa with three points, the victory also brought an end to a run of 24 league games away from home without a positive scoreline.

That run stretches back to Villa’s Premier League campaign last season and was the Villans’ first win away from home since August 2015.

Whilst it’s unlikely to lead to a revival in the club’s fortunes, it does at least mean they can forget about their woes and look to build upon their performances. Sat six points behind a play-off spot, though, and just three off the relegation zone, there’s still plenty of work to be done.
