Aston Villa forward to miss Blackburn clash, controversial pair in line to step in

According to reports in the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa forward Jordan Ayew will miss his side’s match against Blackburn Rovers this weekend after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the derby at Birmingham City on Sunday.

What happened?

The Ghana international, who had previously been cautioned against Luton Town, Rotherham United, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, picked up a yellow card for a challenge on the Blues’ Stephen Gleeson.

How much of a miss will he be?

Ayew may have only scored two league goals this season, but he has been a huge part of his team’s attacking play this term and will be a big miss for Steve Bruce and his improving team when Rovers visit Villa Park on Saturday.

So, who will replace Ayew?

Interestingly, it could mean a return to the starting line-up for one of Villa’s controversial stars – Jack Grealish or Gabby Agbonlahor.

The former is returning from a three-match suspension himself after being found guilty of stamping on Wolves’ Conor Coady, while the latter made his first appearance for the club since March following two suspensions for off the pitch behaviour when he replaced Ayew in the 81st minute at St Andrew’s.
