Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes striker partners Darren Bent and Christian Benteke will turn things around for the club once they have had time to click.
Villa have made a shaky start to the season under new manager Lambert, winning just one of their first five games. Bent fired the Midlanders ahead in the first half at Southampton on Saturday but Villa then collapsed as the top-flight newcomers stormed to a 4-1 win.
Belgium youngster Benteke has also scored just one Premier League goal this season, in Villa’s sole success over Swansea, after arriving from Genk in the summer. Despite his side’s slow start, manager Lambert is counting on his strike duo to ignite the club’s campaign once they have gelled up front. He told The Sun:
“I am sure we’ll be fine. Christian was a handful and Darren is a goalscorer but it will take time for them to gel.” On Bent’s goal, he added: “”That’s Darren to a tee. That’s how he has made a living out of the game with the way he can score.”
