That may seem menial, but it gives an indication into how Aston Villa have managed to build up strong squad depth, helped considerably by the 12 signings they made during the summer.

Another example of this from the game is that Ezri Konsa remained at centre-back, alongside Tyrone Mings, with Bjorn Engels only making the bench after his injury. The 22-year-old went on to make two clearances, one block and one interception.

The fact one of last season's playoff heroes, Kortney Hause, can't even get in Dean Smith's squad says a lot about just how many impressive options they have.

Going out and signing the number of players they did during the summer may have seemed excessive, but it is being shown now that this type of planning can play an important part in Villa getting results against big teams, even when they have injuries to contend with.

If you consider how poorly Fulham did last season, getting relegated, Villa are certainly showing signs of being far better off come next May.
